NHS Sight Test at Underwood Eyecare

A standard 20-minute sight test for eligible patients. Upgrades to our Gold or Silver Eye Examinations are available.

What is an NHS Sight Test?

An NHS Sight Test is a basic 20-minute appointment that covers all the essential checks in accordance with current legislation.

What Is the Difference Between an NHS Sight Test and a Private Eye Examination?

In accordance with current legislation, an NHS Sight Test is a basic 20-minute appointment that covers all the essential checks. In contrast, a private eye examination includes longer testing times and additional specialist tests, such as a 3D OCT scan that examines the internal layers of the eye. We can diagnose any potential issues at the earliest possible stage with the aid of these additional tests, which provide us with a more comprehensive picture of the health of your eyes.

Can I Upgrade My NHS Sight Test?

Yes, there is a reduced price if you upgrade your NHS Sight Test to a Gold Eye Examination or Silver Eye Examination that includes a longer testing time and OCT scan. Tell us when booking your appointment if you would like to upgrade!

Why Should I Upgrade to a Private Eye Examination?

With our continuous investment in technology, we are able to offer better eye care than ever before. Using the same advanced technology as a private hospital, we have the latest equipment. As a result, abnormalities can be detected five years earlier than with an NHS Sight Test.

Unfortunately, the NHS does not fund these advanced screening techniques. Private eye examinations can benefit everyone thanks to the technology we use. It helps us track even the smallest changes in your eyes over time, as it gives us a clear picture of your eye health.

Upgrading to a Private Eye Examination Is Recommended if You:

  • Are aged 60 or over

  • Are diabetic

  • Have been diagnosed with glaucoma or have a family history of glaucoma

  • A family history of eye disease or a previous diagnosis of an eye condition
